The GWO Advanced Rescue (ART) training module covers all rescue and single-rescuer elements, allowing delegates to undertake all four modules together in a three-day intensive program. The syllabus covers:

 Hub spinner and inside blade rescue (HSIBR)  Nacelle, tower and basement rescue (NTBR)
 Single rescuer: hub, spinner and inside blade rescue (SR:HSIBR)  Single rescuer: Nacelle, tower and basement module (SR:NTBR)

Control risks associated with rescue and deliver best practice rescue training

The GWO Advanced Rescue (ART) training combined modules aim to mitigate and control the risks associated with rescue operations undertaken in and from wind turbines to facilitate better emergency preparedness and response within the renewables industry. The course syllabus has been developed around risk assessments, industry-related accident and incident statistics during the installation phase as well as during the operations, service and maintenance work on wind turbine generators and wind power plants.

Entry requirements

3 Day GWO ART Advanced Rescue Course |  Covers rescue operations undertaken in and from wind turbines

Delegates looking to undertake these modules, need to hold a valid GWO Working at Height, GWO First Aid and Manual Handling certificates.

The GWO Advanced Rescue Hub, spinner and inside blade and Nacelle, Tower and Basement modules form part of the overall range of advanced rescue stands recently developed by the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) in-order to train your teams in advanced rescue scenarios and capabilities within an offshore environment.

GWO pre-requisite

For any delegates wanting to book on the Enhanced GWO ART (Advanced Rescue Course), we require the following documentation:

  • Full medical fitness
  • In-date GWO Basic Safety Work at Height, First Aid, Manual Handling certificates.

In-order to follow guidelines, we will need to verify these on the WINDA system.

Candidates who successfully complete the GWO Advanced Rescue Training Combined Training modules will receive a certificate to confirm they have met the level of competence required. 

Learning Outcomes

Delegates will learn best-practice skills for delivering advanced rescue capabilities in a renewables environment including:

  • 5-day advanced training program – delegates can block book all GWO advanced rescue training & GWO enhanced first aid modules combined
  • Undertake advanced rescue capabilities from a high-risk working environment
  • Perform these rescue operations in teams acting as the rescue team coordinator or as a single rescuer
  • Competency to rescue a colleague from the blade, spinner and hub within a wind turbine
  • Perform descending and ascending rescue operations from an enclosed space within a wind turbine to an assembly area (i.e. ground, transition piece or vessel)
  • Display competency in the use of equipment in the rescue scenario outside the norm (i.e. creation of suspended aerial rope to safely and effectively transfer the casualty from the spinner to nacelle)  
  • Use power-driven CRD’s in an active role for rescue up scenarios
  • Use equipment in the rescue scenario outside the norm (i.e. creation of suspended aerial rope to safely and effectively transfer the casualty from the spinner to nacelle) 
  • Prepare an injured person for helicopter rescue from a wind turbine
  • Develop specialised knowledge – such as assess and determine a rescue strategy for various rescue scenarios as well as an evacuation strategy during a rescue operation

The GWO Advanced Rescue Training (ART) Module aims to empower and provide delegates with the competency, skills and theoretical and practical knowledge to access and rescue an injured person from the hub, spinner, inside the blade, nacelle, tower and basement sections to an assembly point until emergency responders arrive on-scene.
