25/11/2019
Military helicopters and hundreds of people were recently galvanised into action throughout Greater Manchester for Triton II, which was the largest live exercise ever held in this part of the UK designed to test the emergency response plans of the police, paramedics, firefighters and more.
Although full details of the exercise have not been released, the organisers confirmed that it included a mock live response search and rescue operation in Rochdale and Oldham, the Manchester Evening News reports.
Utility, transport and health organisations, as well as local councils, were put to the test during the exercise.
Chair of the Greater Manchester Resilience Forum Paul Argyle was quoted by the news source as saying: “Exercises like this are hugely important to ensure – as a region – we are prepared to deal with a real-life major event or disaster, should it occur … I would like to assure residents across the region that it will be business as usual during this exercise.”
Back in May, a mock terrorist attack was held at The Trafford Centre in Manchester, one of the biggest shopping centre in the UK. Over 800 volunteers took part in the event, which saw an incident involving the detonation of an explosive device in the food court.
