It is just over five months since a gentleman collapsed at the wheel of his car outside the Old Mill pub in Barton-upon-Humber suffering from a cardiac arrest. Passers-by ran to Barton fire station for help, where fortunately three colleagues from HFR Solutions were having a meeting and had an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to hand.
This fortunate coincidence inspired the raising of funds to purchase a number of AEDs and cabinets to ensure members of our community have local access to an AED should they need one.
Thanks to funding from HFR Solutions, Rescue Day and the Extreme Challenge, AED defibrillators and cabinets have been purchased for the following Community Fire Stations, plus four units for the vehicles of Humberside Fire and Rescue Service's Community Safety Advocates on both the North and South bank, as well as citing one within Belton and dontating one to Humber Rescue:
On Friday 2 October a number of the HFR Solutions team witnessed true sporting prowess and pure magnanimity in victory by their very own Nathan Iley.
The event, 'Life for a Kid', is a charity that raises money for families with children who have debilitating illnesses that more often than not are incurable and limit the child's life. The event saw two fathers of two such children slugging it out toe to toe in order to raise funds to provide some wonderful holidays and experiences for children like theirs. Truly inspiring and really puts life into perspective.
Nathan also represented both the charity and HFR solutions in order that the audience dug deep into their pockets and gave generously for such a worthy cause. Jeff Owen, Danny Barker and Rick Marsh all entered into the spirit of the event by successfully bidding for some sports memorabilia; although not sure who some bloke called Henry is who apparently played for Arsenal?!
The highlight of the night was a fantastic demonstration of boxing by Nathan, beating three opponents to secure the Life for a Kid Prize Fighter 2015 title. Not only did he win in absolute style he did it with a cool and text book approach and was never troubled at any phase of each fight. Without doubt, pure pugilistic perfection.
A great night for the charity and a great credit to both the organisers and all the boxers who took part. The boxers were all truly magnificent for getting in the ring in the first place, as some will have been in a world of pain in the days that followed because they certainly took some punishment on the night. Total respect for them all.
All competing were full of heart but there was only one winner at the end of it all and that was Nathan Iley. A true gent both in and out of the ring and a massive credit to himself, his family and to HFR Solutions.
Very, very well done Nathan, we are all extremely proud of you.

A new training partnership has been formed between HFR Solutions and HOTA, the quality training provider, to deliver the wind industry's five Basic Safety Training (BST) modules in a one week package in Hull.
The partnership offers training that meets the standards of the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) and RenewableUK (RUK) in working at height, marine safety, fire awareness, first aid and manual handling.
Nick Granger, Director at HFR Solutions said: “This is a really exciting partnership as it incorporates the established training facilities at HOTA in Hull with our new training facilities in Hessle. The partnership is a natural fit as we’re both local training providers established to benefit the local community. HFR Solutions is a community interest company investing all profit in either community based safety initiatives or directly back into the business. HOTA a limited company with charity status established in 1987 by the offshore industry for the offshore industry. HOTA’s primary aim was to provide training and facilities for the Oil & Gas sector, investing all surplus funds into enhancing its training facilities.”
Karen Shepherd, General Manager at HOTA said: “This is an excellent opportunity for two highly professional local companies to collaborate and offer their expertise from the maritime and offshore industries, and the fire and rescue service, to the renewable industry.”
HFR Solutions is holding a launch event at their new training facility in Hessle on Tues 15 September, 10am – 12pm or 1-3pm where you will have the opportunity to take a tour of the facility, watch training demonstrations and learn more about their training partnership with HOTA and the BST training package available.

HFR Solutions has today been awarded the extension of the emergency response contract at TATA Steel, Scunthorpe, until 31 April 2018.
HFR Solutions have been providing the emergency response at the Scunthorpe site since 2012, providing a dedicated and professional emergency service where both a fire appliance and ambulance are crewed and operated to the same specifications as that of the Local Authority Emergency Services.
The contract renewal enables HFR Solutions to continue the proactive partnership working with the TATA management team, building on the positive safety improvements that they have made in the last 3 years in terms of minimising incidences and maximising productivity, resulting in substantial year-on-year declines in emergency incidents at the site.
John Armson, TATA Contract Manager for HFR Solutions said “Our emergency provision at TATA Steel Scunthorpe is as much about prevention as it is about protection, response and recovery. We have worked hard over the last 3 years to align our proactive practices to TATA’s Health and Safety Management system to ensure that collectively the plants on the site understand their risk profile and credible scenarios which could potentially occur, along with the implementing control measures such as education, training and preparation for such events”.
