Interactive Map Reveals Most Dangerous Places To Work

Posted: 26/10/2016

Focusing on health and safety, and emergency response procedures, is essential for all businesses, no matter what industry they operate in. But it would appear that some industries are more dangerous than others, and some parts of the UK are apparently worse in this regard than others as well.

Vero Solutions has just published an interactive map of the UK, revealing which jobs are the most risky and where in the UK you’re most likely to have an accident at work. For example, in the East Midlands there were 4,620 cases of ill health per 100,000 people in the year 2014/2015, the highest in the country. In contrast, Scotland had the fewest cases at 3,250.

However, there were 20 fatal injuries in Scotland between 2014 and 2015, tying with the north-west for the highest rate in the UK. The lowest rate was found to be in the north-east, in comparison.

The sectors with the most reported injuries were found to be agriculture, forestry and fishing, construction, food service, transport and storage, and manufacturing. And the sectors with the most reported ill health rates were revealed to be public administration and defence, and human health and social work activities.

This is especially concerning given recent research from the TUC revealing that 46 per cent of workplaces in the UK have never actually had a health and safety inspection, with just 24 per cent of representatives saying that they know for a fact an inspection had taken place in the past year.
