Early Plans For Norfolk Wind Farm Released

Posted: 29/11/2016

Swedish company Vattenfall, which launched the Norfolk Vanguard Offshore Wind Farm earlier this year, has revealed early plans for another such scheme to collate responses and views from local authorities, technical specialists, the local communities and public agencies.

The outcome of future consultations and the environmental impact assessment will help to shape the final consent application before it’s sent to the Planning Inspectorate for examination. Over 20,000 newsletters have now been sent out to those living in North Norfolk.

The company, which has just come to an agreement with National Grid, intends to power the shore between Bacton and Eccles-on-Sea using the 1.8 gigawatt offshore wind farm. An underground cable will then run 50km to connect to the substation near Necton.

“We hope though that people will agree with us that undergrounding the 50km onshore cable route is the right decision as it minimises the wind farm’s impact. We want to add value in Norfolk and for us knowing the best way to do that – whether its good design decisions or investment opportunities – contributes to the best outcome for Norfolk,” Senior Project Manager for the Norfolk Vanguard scheme Ruari Lean said.

Vattenfall has also sent out an early report to members of Norfolk County Council’s environment, transport and development committee, setting out what is known about the proposal, as well as outlining potential implications for the region. This includes the impact of cables on the environment, potential for new jobs and the impact on fishing and shipping.
