70 New Jobs From MHI Vestas

Posted: 22/11/2016

Offshore wind company MHI Vestas has revealed it will be adding 70 new jobs at its blade production site on the Isle of Wight. A recent economic impact assessment carried out by Bilfinger GVA found that the impact of this facility has been £135 million worth of economic output to the UK economy in the last year.

Some 380 direct and indirect jobs have been supported by the blade manufacturing arm of the business, representing significant value for the local economy as well.

CEO at MHI Vestas Offshore Jens Tommerup said: “There are three key areas of value that we bring to the UK, namely competition, innovation and skills, which will continue to bring direct benefits in terms of cost reductions, jobs and investment in the UK. This truly is a win-win-win scenario. A win for UK jobs. A win for UK industry. A win for cost competitive, secure, low carbon power generation in the UK.”

Furthermore, the company recently secured a 92.4 MW order in the UK, with Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm ordering 11 of the most powerful turbines in the world to supply services and turbines for the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC). These turbines will be the first to power up to 8.4 MW, which it is hoped will further increase productivity and allow the EOWDC to deliver a total capacity of a minimum of 92.4 MW.
