First Responder On Scene Course | This 2-Day Advanced First Aid Course delivers specialist first aid skills and responseThe First Responder on Scene level 4 standard training content is designed at first responders and the delivery of an advanced level of medical care similar to:

  • Other emergency services
  • On-site medics
  • Senior cabin crew

The purpose of the course is to provide advanced trauma response and immediate life support to the patient pending the arrival of definitive pre-hospital care.

The importance of a First Responder on scene

A First Responder on scene due to their specialised skills, knowledge and competencies play a critical role as they are likely to be among the first to arrive and provide assistance at the scene of an emergency or crisis and have the foresight to think of what should or could be retrieved and saved.

Course Syllabus

The Three-Day First Responder on-scene training course will provide all the practical skills and competencies delegates require to safely deliver advanced trauma and effective first responder levels of care.

The syllabus includes:

 Scene management (including dynamic risk assessment)  Kinematics
Mechanisms of injury  Catastrophic bleeding including use of advanced wound dressings and tourniquets
 Airway management including suction and orophargael airways  Ventilation with bag valve mask
 Taking observations including blood pressure/sugar levels  Extremity trauma including SAM and vacuum splints
 Burns - using advanced burns treatments including airways burns  Suspension intolerance incliding rescue technques
 Crush injuries  Casualty packaging techniques inc vacuum mattress, scopp stretcher and cervical collar
 Special circumstances inc drowning, poisoning, paediatrics  Heat-related conditions - hyper/hypothermia
 Medical emergencies (stroke, diabetes, anaphylaxis, fainting, epilepsy, asthma etc)  Adult life support including pit crew CPR
  Safe use of an AED  Drug therapy (i.e aspirin, glucose and epinephrine) 

The course content can be tailored to meet the unique requirements of your organisation.

This training course is supported by an advanced Tier 4 First Responder Kit bag which contains all the advanced first aid equipment and trauma kit that someone trained to this standard would require.    

*Please note that the Tier 4 standard can be delivered with or without oxygen administration. If oxygen is required then delegates will need the required clinical governance standards.

Course Benefits

The Tier 4 standard is aimed at selected members of your team who may need to be trained to an advanced capability due to their nature of their role, who they interact with, their existing skill base or even as a result of a specific requirement under the health and safety (First Aid) regulations in the workplace against known risks and hazards.

Learning Outcomes

The Tier 4 training course is aligned to the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care PHEM ‘D’ Framework and is aimed at dealing with more serious incidents such as:

  • Major bleeds
  • Burns
  • Trauma incidents
  • Broken Limbs
  • Resuscitation
