1 Day GWO Working at Height Refresher & GWO Manual Handling Course | Achieve your GWO Accreditation

This refresher module ensures delegates can revalidate their GWO Work at Height and Manual Handling accreditations, so they are competent to work safely at height, undertake a basic rescue from height and encourage safe manual handling behaviour and perform manual handling processes safely to meet expected industry standards.

The GWO Working at Height and Manual Handling refresher is been designed to meet the competency requirements and basic training for all personnel, contractors and employers undertaking work at height and perform safe lifting techniques on wind farms and within the renewables sector.

The GWO Working at Height refresher course syllabus includes:

 Legislation and behavioural safety  Harness
 Fall prevention  Fall arrest lanyards
 Vertical fall arrest  Vertical fall arrest systems
 Dropped objects  Self-retracting lifelines
 Control measures to prevent injury during training  Practical exercises
 Emergency procedure  Risks and hazards - suspension trauma
 PPE review  Rescue devices and rigging set up
 Controls to prevent injury during training  Rescue exercises

 

The GWO Working at Height & Manual Handling refresher module syllabus covers:

  Manual handling techniques (risks and hazards, safe lifting, proper techniques)
  Planning manual handling (T.I.L.E. principle, hierarchical approach and control measures)
  Spinal anatomy and posture (benefit of warms up, body posture, potential & causes of injury and injury and incident reporting)

Offshore teams consisting of technicians, contractors and operations and maintenance specialists will be required to undertake a variety of tasks such as routine maintenance and repair work undertaken at height and may involve heavy lifting. Some tasks will require specialised equipment, which may require safely transported and lifting once at the site. This may also include transferring heavy equipment from the shoreline to offshore locations, which may provide a manual handling logistical challenge.

Working at Height

Any work undertaken at height carries a certain element of risk. Therefore, as employers or employees, we have a duty of care to ensure all the adequate precautions have been put in place for any tasks that need to be completed at height and that the work is undertaken by personnel, who display the competencies,  and industry-specific training accreditations to complete at height tasks in a controlled and safe manner.

Manual Handling

The GWO Manual Handling element of this module will reinforce positive manual handling techniques, considerations when lifting and moving objects and safe working practices to help reduce the potential risk of injury resulting from incorrect manual handling techniques by assessing the risks and planning the lifting task. Delegates will also need to clearly understand the TILE principle, discuss how to assess and control risks and explain how control measures reduce the risk of injury.

Upon successful completion of this module, delegates will be able to display safe work at height practice and best practice lifting techniques in a safe and controlled manner.

Upon successful completion of this module, delegates will have revalidated their GWO Working at Height and Manual Handling certificate for 2 years* and will possess the skills to work safely at height practice and demonstrate best practice lifting techniques in a safe and controlled manner.

Learning Outcomes

Delegates will be assessed through a mixture of learning outcomes employing blended learning, theory and practical exercises, direct observation and oral questions.
