Devil’s Kitchen

HFR Solutions teams battle it out in the heat of the kitchen

With the support of the Smiles Foundation, two teams from HFR Solutions put their cooking and hosting skills to the test, battled it out at the Riverside 1 Hull College Restaurant to provide some culinary delights to over 70 guests. The winning team would win the  HFR Solutions Devil’s Kitchen crown and coveted silver extinguisher trophy.

Great food, great entertainment - a night to remember

With incredible support from Hull College staff and students, in a fun but competitive environment, teams from Scunthorpe and Hessle battled it out and worked hard all day in the kitchen and front of house. Each team were tasked to create a fun and inviting atmosphere and prepare a delicious three-course meal for guests.

Over £2,300 raised for local charities

Devil’s Kitchen is a unique fundraising event which sees businesses compete in the pressure of the kitchen and front of house to cook and serve delicious meals for their corporate clients. The evening proved a great success raising over £2,300 for local charities and guests sampling great food and experiencing good entertainment.

All food preparation and front of house service was provided by HFR Solutions’ staff, who were completely out of their comfort zones and swapped their day jobs for chef whites and aprons, in the name of charity. Both teams played an active part in the preparation and cooking of all ingredients, as well as organising the room layout and table settings. The evening’s entertainment provided for guests, included a retro shuffleboard, a storyboard and a quiz. Team Fire came with artefacts from a local Fire Museum, including old helmets and bells. Their opponents, Team Peaky Blinders dressed up for the occasion with flat caps and antique pearls.

Excellent teamwork - in unfamiliar surroundings

Mark Richardson, Marketing Coordinator at HFR Solutions commented:

“We were absolutely delighted to take part in Devil’s Kitchen and with over 70 guests attending, we were thrilled with the response. The full team really enjoyed all of the planning and preparation and the evening itself was a tremendous success. “All of our guests thoroughly enjoyed the evening and to raise over £2,300 was a fantastic achievement.”

Helen Binnie-Wise, Head of Events and Marketing, at Smile, was delighted with the result:

“Both teams worked tirelessly throughout the day to produce a first-class three-course meal and wonderful atmosphere for their guests. “We can’t thank Hull College enough for their support. The kitchen element of the event was led by School of Catering Course Leader, Ian Sneddon, who has just been chosen as a finalist in the Hull Daily Mail 2018 Chef of the Year Awards, so the teams were definitely in good hands!”

Nick Granger, Managing Director, HFR Solutions commented “It was great to see our people working in a completely different environment, teamwork was essential in order to deliver great food and service. The Hull College students were a credit to both themselves and the college. They were a big help before and during the event and they clearly have some of the region’s upcoming culinary talent! I’m delighted with the evening’s outcome raising £2,300 for charity and would like to personally thank all guests, who supported this initiative”.
