HFR Solutions support HFRS to fund the purchase of new lock breaking & life-saving equipment

Funding for HFRS lock breaking and life saving equipment | HFR Solutions Community Interest  ProjectThis new equipment will compliment Humberside Fire & Rescue Service’s (HFRS) existing at-the-scene Road Traffic Collision (RTC) responders, with quick access to casualties as well as being equipped with trauma care dressings for patient care.

Dynamic response and new equipment required to meet advances in vehicle technology

As the dynamics of incidents are forever changing coupled with recent advances in vehicle technology, it has become essential for the HFRS team responding to road traffic collisions to remain current with these advances. This will help them deliver the most effective and dynamic response possible and have the right equipment and tools available for handling these types of incidents.

HFR Solutions funding equates to £15,000

The need for enhanced equipment such as impact drivers, drills, tourniquets and haemostatic dressings was identified and how it would help provide quick access to casualties, preserve life, reduce the loss of life from catastrophic haemorrhages, and help teams respond to major bleeds. HFR Solutions funding equated to an investment of over £15,000 and resulted in each HFRS appliance carrying a set of impact drivers and drills as well as two Tourniquets and Haemostatic Dressings.

Steve Colakovic, Watch Manager, Humberside Fire & Rescue Service, comments “Humberside Fire and Rescue Service continually look to proactively improve capabilities to ensure an effective and efficient operational response is achieved and maintained. This new equipment compliments a wide range of equipment we have on fire engines. Since the launch of the new drill and impact driver set, we have received very positive feedback from our staff who are using the equipment at incidents. The tourniquets and haemostatic dressings increase our capabilities with regards to dealing with a major haemorrhage. By having the equipment, knowledge and training, we can work more effectively with partner agencies to save lives and reduce harm to people involved in incidents.

Steve continues “We would like to thank HFR Solutions for supporting us in purchasing this equipment, as part of a wider rescue equipment project which is now complete”.

Using the compact impact drivers and drills rather than using the larger heavy-duty hydraulic tools for road traffic collisions, creates less impact on the stability of a vehicle, which may have already been involved in a collision.

Investment in this new equipment will also support other areas of Humberside Fire & Rescue Service’s response as the tourniquets and haemostatic dressings will also be used for dealing with industrial accidents and the impact driver can be used as a support tool for gaining entry into a property.
