HFR Solutions delivers high-quality firefighting and confined spaces training to Synthomer

Synthomer Ltd is one of the world’s major suppliers of Latices and speciality emulsion polymers to leading organisations in many market segments.

Case Study Requirements

Synthomer Ltd is one of the world’s major suppliers of Latices and speciality emulsion polymers to leading organisations in many market segments.

The catalyst for engaging a third party training specialist was three-fold: concerns over the effectiveness of existing in-house confined space training, a resource gap due to the retirement of the Training Officer and the use of live fires being prohibited for on-site training.

Solution

Initially, HFR Solutions CIC delivered five sessions of Confined Space Rescue and Recovery training to Synthomer Ltd employees, to ensure immediate proficiency of staff.

Synthomer Ltd’s Safety Officer, Neil Hardy, then completed training with HFR Solutions CIC which would allow him to maintain consistency of standards by conducting the courses internally.

The Industrial Firefighting training was delivered at Humberside Airport’s dedicated fire training facilities which enables delegates to fight real fires and simulated chemical fires, adding an extra element of value with the use of genuine firefighting foam.

This is possible thanks to a unique reed bed developed at the airport, which allows foam to be deposited and extracted with no detrimental impact on the environment and helps to replicate realistic firefighting.

Testimonial

Neil explains the motivation for working with HFR Solutions CIC, “We had a very positive long-standing association with HFR Solutions CIC so when the time came to put in place a training partnership it was a natural progression to utilise their expertise and excellent facilities.”

Added value at each step

Neil recognises that there were more benefits gained from the training than the obvious operational skills and techniques, commenting: “We learnt a lot regarding the equipment we needed to invest in for greater efficiency, for example the type of winches needed for use in confined space & rescue.

Going through the Confined Space Entry and Rescue training also allowed us to assess our equipment and use HFR Solutions CIC´s experience in getting it improved/renewed.

Neil continues, “The harnesses used were much superior to the ones we had on site, now we not only use them for rescue but the workshop purchased the same type. They are much more comfortable, easier to get on and lessen the likelihood of suspension injuries. It saved us a considerable amount of time and resource researching the information in-house.”

Training of this complexity must be engaging, to the point and accessible and Neil is confident that the courses from HFR Solutions CIC meet the brief, given the response from recent delegates: “Our guys really enjoy the training and look forward to the sessions and that gives us great confidence in HFR Solutions CIC.”
